Real-Time Person & Content Privacy for Noor Browser
Noor Browser is a safe and halal browser built for families, kids, and mindful users. Powered by lightweight on-device vision models, it blurs or hides persons on images and streaming video in real time, while a secondary model selectively blurs NSFW or sensitive content with ultra-low latency.
Bottlenecks & Operational Constraints
Filtering inappropriate imagery and protecting visual privacy in modern web browsers previously required streaming video frames to expensive cloud APIs. This introduced severe privacy risks, high cloud server costs, and unacceptable multi-second latency that broke user web navigation.
Architectural Solution & Implementation
We engineered and quantized custom lightweight computer vision models directly compiled to WebAssembly (WASM) and ONNX Runtime. The vision models execute entirely client-side on the user’s local CPU, detecting and blurring human figures and sensitive content in 80–90 milliseconds without transmitting a single byte to external servers.
